Mona Morales-Schildt

Mona Morales-Schildt (1908-1999) joined Kosta in 1958. She is best known for her elegant, restrained designs in the great tradition of Scandinavian glass. Her work can also be signed Mona Morales, Monica Morales or Mona Schildt (Morales was her maiden name.). Her best known pieces are the "Ventana" vases; which use large facets to expose the inner layers of thick, multilayered vessels.

Morales-Schildt trained at the Stockholm College of Art, Craft and Design. She joined Gustavsberg as an assistant to Wilhelm Kage in 1935. After three years at Gustavsberg, she then worked for the Finnish ceramics firm of Arabia until the outbreak of World War II. She also had studied under Paolo Venini of Murano fame before joining Kosta. Her tenure at Kosta was only from 1958 -1970, but achieved some of Sweden's finest creations in glass.
