Berndt Friberg

Berndt Friberg (1899-1981) represented Scandinavian ceramics throughout his long career as the master of form and glazing. His constant inspiration was the refined ceramics of classical Chinese taste. Friberg was renowned for throwing and glazing his vessels by his own hand. His haresfur glazes were astonishing for their sensuous qualities. His minatures exceeded all other efforts.

Berndt Friberg joined Gustavsberg in 1934 as an assistant to Wilhelm Kage. From 1944 until his death he worked at his own designs. During his long career he received many awards including gold medals at the Milan Triennale in 1948, 1951 and 1954.
